EWU triumphs, moves into 4th

Chrystal Johnson had 25 kills and 11 digs for her third consecutive double-double and Addie Webster had 10 kills and 18 digs as Eastern Washington rallied past Northern Colorado 22-30, 30-27, 30-19, 30-17 Thursday in a Big Sky volleyball match at Greeley, Colo.

EWU (15-8, 7-6 Big Sky Conference) moves into a tie for fourth place in conference play with UNC.

Eastern will play its last regular-season road match at Northern Arizona on Saturday at 6 p.m.

“The University of Idaho’s volleyball team improved its home winning streak to five as it swept Louisiana Tech 30-19, 30-23, 30-25 in a Western Athletic Conference match in Moscow.

Idaho improved to 8-14 overall and 7-3 in WAC play. The Bulldogs are 6-22, 0-11.

■Sonja Newcombe led all players with 14 kills as No. 24 Oregon defeated Washington State 34-32, 30-12, 30-22 at Eugene, Ore.

Neticia Enesi, Erin Little, and Mira Djuric each added 10 kills for the Ducks (17-4, 7-4 Pacific-10 Conference).

Tara West led WSU (14-12, 2-10) with nine kills. Kelly Hyder added 13 digs and Corina Beyer had 30 assists.

■Stevie Mussie had 15 kills and Alesha Deesing had 11 as fourth-ranked Washington rolled past Oregon State 30-20, 30-23, 30-26 in Corvallis, Ore.

Christal Morrison added 10 kills as UW improved to 20-3 overall and 10-2 in Pac-10 play.

Women’s soccer

Sammie Arthur scored in the second overtime and Kristen Berndt scored twice and assisted on the winner to lift visiting Whitman to a 4-3 win over Whitworth in a Northwest Conference match.

Lindsey Oakes scored twice for the Pirates (11-5-2, 9-5-1), who dropped their third consecutive match. Jael Hagerott also scored for Whitworth.

Women’s basketball

Brittany Osborn had 22 points and four rebounds, and Katy Baker had 20 points and seven rebounds as Eastern Washington opened its season with a 86-80 exhibition win over visiting Northwest Sports.

EWU begins regular-season play on Nov. 10 against Montana Tech at 2 p.m. The game will be played at Spokane Community College.
