Huckleberries: Sali lends new meaning to ‘undecided’

‘Tis odd that Repub congressional wannabe Bill Sali isn’t sure about his position on Proposition 2, the bait-and-switch initiative that purports to address nonexistent eminent domain problems, but is, in reality, an attack on the local government planning process. In a news release Sunday, he said: “No matter what anyone else claims, I have not finalized my position on Proposition 2 yet.” In her Eye on Boise blog, however, Betsy Russell provided an exchange in which Boise Weekly news editor Shea Andersen asked the Sali camp about the candidate’s position on the controversial proposition. Responded Jesseca Sali, his daughter-in-law and campaign manager: “Shea, Bill will vote for Proposition 2, and I have provided you with a quote from Bill below. Bill Sali: ‘As John Locke said, the preservation of property rights is the end of government. Throughout my years in public service, I have worked to help secure private property rights for all Idahoans. Government should be a good neighbor with property owners, and Proposition 2 embodies that principle.’ ” If that ain’t enough proof that Sali is wafflin’ now, a Bonner County Berry Picker contacted Huckleberries on Tuesday to draw attention to a political ad she received. It was from the Yes on Proposition 2 folks, with a yellow screen highlighting the half-truths at the top and a list of individuals who support the “takings” initiative below. Guess who is No. 1 on the list? You got it – Bill Sali. Seems he’s already practicing to be a double-talking congressman.
