Beyer offers keen insight
We moved to Sandpoint less than a month ago, after 40 years in the Washington, D.C., area, during which we read the Washington Post daily.
While not a particularly avid fan of horse racing, I read Andrew Beyer’s columns in the Post at the times of the Triple Crown and classic races, and occasionally others.
Beyer writes with elegance and a keen insight into horses and their industry. Thus it was a welcome sight to see his byline (May 21, “Barbaro tragedy …”) after the Barbaro breakdown. Once again, he puts the incident in context as inevitable when racing puts such demands on the animals. Yet we all weep, as we did for Ruffian.
Thank you for giving us Beyer’s column.
