CdA’s DeLong repeats as softball player of year
Inland Empire League baseball and softball coaches announced their all-league teams.
In baseball, Lewiston pitcher/infielder Rob Roth, who led the Bengals to the 5A state championship last weekend, was named the player of the year. He was one of eight Lewiston players named to all-league teams. Lewiston coach Tom Grunenfelder was named 5A coach of the year and Sandpoint coach Mike Givens, whose Bulldogs claimed the 4A state title, was named 4A coach of the year.
Lake City sophomore infielder Trent Bridges was named newcomer of the year.
Players named to the first team were: pitchers, senior Brandon Parker of Post Falls, junior Alex Capaul of LC, senior Jake Hall of Coeur d’Alene and junior Brett Harris of Lewiston; infielders, senior Chris Butler of Lewiston, junior Tyler Lichty of Sandpoint, senior Ricky Klontz of Sandpoint and junior Shea Vucinich of CdA; catcher, senior Travis Georgius of CdA; utility, senior Brady Capaul of LC; designated hitter, junior Brandon Haas of Post Falls; and outfielders, junior John Rohde of Lewiston, junior Noah McKay of Lewiston, senior Cory Kreighbaum of LC and senior Dan Hamilton of Post Falls.
Second-team picks were: Collin Gibbs, Adam Carson and Clay Allen of Lewiston; Zac Manor, Noah Hawkins, Alex Wolfe and Cory Hawkins of Sandpoint; Andy Seaman and Brock Douglas of CdA; Beck Roan of LC; Michael Shaffer, Kelly Hall and Jon Aune of Post Falls; Paul Wimer of Moscow; and Scott Carr of Lakeland.
In softball, CdA junior pitcher/first baseman Jenna DeLong was named player of the year for the second season in a row.
Phil Hayes, the interim coach at Post Falls, was named coach of the year. Freshmen Lela Work of Lake City and Blake Meredith of Post Falls were named the 5A and 4A newcomers of the year, respectively.
