Engineers Forum of Spokane – The guest speaker is Spokane County Commissioner Phil Harris, noon at the Holiday Inn Airport, 1616 Windsor Drive. Lunch is $12; 244-3467.

Bird identification – There will be bird identification classes from 7-9 p.m. today, Wednesday and Friday at the West Valley Outdoor Learning Center, 8706 E. Upriver Drive. Those attending the free sessions will be invited on a trip to the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge. Call for reservations; 448-3825.

Compass Club luncheon – The women’s club for welcoming newcomers to the area will also host a style show, 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Davenport Hotel, 10 S. Post. The cost is $20. Call for reservations; 465-8163.

Doll show and sale – The Lilac City Doll Club hosts the event with antique and modern dolls and accessories, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene. Admission is $3, children 12 and under are admitted free; 466-5322.

Nature photography – Local wildlife photographer Rich Leon will show examples of his work and discuss techniques for shooting good nature photographs, 9 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge’s Education Center. Participants may also bring a lunch and stay for an afternoon hike to photograph flowers and wildlife. Donations will be accepted. To reach the refuge, head south from Cheney on Cheney-Plaza Road. After four miles turn left on Smith Road and go straight until reaching the Education Center; 359-7050.

Birds for families – In celebration of International Migrating Birds Day there will be a free day-long family experience with birds from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the West Valley Outdoor Learning Center, 8706 E. Upriver Drive. There will be a chance to observe birds and hands-on demonstrations on how to feed birds, make bird houses and identify birds. There also will be a scavenger hunt and silent auction. AIDS issues – Spokane AIDS Network executive director Susan Fabrikant will speak on the issues and challenges of AIDS, 7 p.m. next Monday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort George Wright Drive. The discussion is hosted by the United Nations Association-Spokane; 624-3608.

Audubon Society – The group will host a biologist from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife speaking on the Cedar Creek Dam removal project, 7:30 p.m. May 10 at the Riverview Retirement Home, 1801 E. Upriver Drive; 466-3098.

Windfalls – Regional author Jean Hegland will discuss her novel “Windfalls,” noon May 10 at the Eastern Washington University Pence Union Building; 359-2400.

Wildlife rehabilitation – Veterinary technician Marily Olmar will lead a discussion on local wildlife rehabilitation efforts, 7 p.m. May 13 in Isle Hall, Room 138, on the Eastern Washington University Cheney Campus. Donations are requested; 359-7050.
