McElwain hired by Raiders
ALAMEDA, Calif. – New Oakland Raiders coach Art Shell announced his coaching staff Saturday, selecting as his offensive coordinator one of his former assistants who has not coached in the NFL in more than a decade.
Tom Walsh, who was fired by the Raiders along with Shell following the 1994 season, will try to energize an offense that scored just 51 points in the final five games of a disappointing 4-12 season in 2005.
Among the new assistant coaches joining Shell’s staff are Hall of Famer Jackie Slater, who will coach the offensive line along with Irv Eatman. Jim McElwain, a longtime assistant at Eastern Washington, will be the quarterbacks coach.
Former Washington State defensive lineman Keith Millard (defensive line) is among the returning assistants.
