The week of Feb. 27
Rockford City Council – A representative from the Department of Ecology gave a presentation on shoreline management. Council members discussed putting a fire levy before voters in April. The levy failed by three votes on the last attempt. They also discussed ongoing issues with one of the sewer lagoons. (Source: Town clerk)
Liberty Lake SCOPE – A Centennial Trail Ranger from State Parks and Recreation provided training on patrolling the Centennial Trail. They also discussed volunteer staffing for Liberty Lake’s Easter egg hunt in April. Guest speaker Ozzie Knezovich of the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spoke about his run for sheriff in the next election. (Source: President Rob Hill)
The week of Feb. 20
Valley Fire – Commissioners had a long discussion about their policy of letting groups use their meeting rooms for no charge and whether that constitutes a gift of public funds. No decision was made and the discussion is expected to continue at the next meeting. They also passed a resolution stating that the chief can sign legal documents after an action (like a sale or purchase) has been approved by the commissioners. (Source: Commissioner Joe Dawson)
Fairfield City Council – Council members discussed the upcoming water tank recoating project. The recent ski bus had very low numbers and they discussed whether the annual tradition should be scrapped. They also looked at a proposed sign design for Thiel Park. Council members also gave approval for the upcoming Farm Chicks show in May. (Source: Town Clerk Sue Adams)
Fire District 13 (Newman Lake) – Commissioners have received about eight applications for the position of fire chief, which closes on April 1. (Source: Secretary Kathleen Small)
Fire District 8 – During a special meeting the commissioners discussed long-term plans for the district, including alliances with neighboring department and running a lid lift for the EMS levy. During their regular meeting later the same day the commissioners decided to change the time and location of the regular meeting on the third Wednesday each month to 6 p.m. at Station 81, 6117 S. Palouse Highway. They also recognized volunteer James Oberst for 40 years of service. (Source: Deputy Chief Dan Blystone)
West Valley SCOPE – Volunteers spent most of the evening discussing plans for the annual West Valley Days in June. They also voted to purchase a new microwave. (Source: Jan Geiger)
