Capital stops Lewiston in 5A semis
Capital ended Lewiston’s eight-game winning streak and state-title hopes Friday with a 68-48 win at the State 5A tournament in Nampa, Idaho.
Kyle Efaw and J.D. Porter led four players in double figures with 13 points for Capital, and Nick Davis chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Andrew Packwood topped the Bengals (22-2) with 14 points, and Bo Gregg chipped in nine points and nine rebounds before fouling out.
Capital converted 16 more free throws than Lewiston and had 16 more points off turnovers. The Eagles also held a 21-7 edge in points off the bench.
Lewiston will meet Mountain View today in the third-place game.
State 4A
Moscow could not contain Skyview’s backcourt in a 53-38 loss that drops the Bears into the third-place game of the tournament at Meridian High in Caldwell.
Skyview’s starting guards Matt Ballenger, Andrew Swartz and Louie Beech combined for 48 points, with Ballenger scoring 24. Paul Wimer and Brad Herrenbruck each notched 10 points for Moscow (16-9), which was outshot 40 percent to 21 percent in the second half.
Skyview also converted six 3-pointers to just two for Moscow.
The Bears will face Kuna today.
“Sandpoint dropped its second straight tournament game with a 63-61 loss to Century.
Brian Shultz had 21 points, Michael Breewer 15, Chase Lowther 13 and Ryan Armbruster 12 for the Bulldogs. No other Sandpoint player scored.
Sean Rutten led four Century players in double figures with 14 points.
Sandpoint forced 24 turnovers in the game while only committing nine and held a 27-8 edge in points off turnovers.
The loss was the Bulldogs’ 10th in their last 13 games. Sandpoint finished its season 11-15.
State 1A
Post Falls Christian’s season ended with a 57-39 loss to Genesee in Caldwell.
The Eagles (20-2) entered the tournament undefeated but dropped their last two games after beating Richfield in the opening round.
Flynn Vick scored 11, and John Hutchins added 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for PFC, who managed only nine free-throw attempts to Genesee’s 37.
Andrew Quint paced Genesee with 21 points, and the Bulldogs held a 25-8 edge in points off turnovers.
