Canucks rally, edge Chicago in shootout

Markus Naslund scored the only shootout goal and lifted the Vancouver Canucks to a 5-4 comeback victory over the host Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night.

The Canucks, who trailed 3-0 after the first period and 4-2 following 40 minutes, finally got even when Brendan Morrison scored with 6:56 left in regulation.

Todd Bertuzzi, Anson Carter and Henrik Sedin scored power-play goals for injury-depleted Vancouver, which was 3 for 12 on the power play. Alex Auld made 26 saves in regulation before a perfect shootout performance.

Hurricanes 5, Panthers 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Erik Cole and Eric Staal each had two goals to help Carolina defeat Florida and tie a franchise record for home victories. The Hurricanes are 26-5-1 at home.

Oilers 3, Sharks 2: At Edmonton, Alberta, Ales Hemsky scored the tiebreaking goal with 1:07 left as the Oilers beat San Jose. Edmonton snapped a four-game losing streak and handed the Sharks their first loss in five games.

Sabres 6, Maple Leafs 2: At Buffalo, N.Y., Derek Roy scored three goals and Ryan Miller made 21 saves to lift the Sabres to a win over Toronto. It was Roy’s first NHL hat trick.

Mighty Ducks 4, Wild 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Sandis Ozolinsh scored the go-ahead goal with 7:11 left in the third period as Anaheim beat Minnesota.

Off the ice

Buffalo retired Pat LaFontaine’s No. 16 sweater before the game against Toronto. LaFontaine, who was Buffalo’s captain from 1992-97, became the sixth Sabres player to have his number retired by the team. … Dallas defenseman Philippe Boucher, a 12-year veteran who already has career highs in goals and points this season, signed a three-year contract extension. … Nashville center Yanic Perreault will miss two to four weeks with a strained knee. … Philadelphia forward Donald Brashear was suspended for one game by the NHL for instigating a fight with New York Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis on Thursday. … Minnesota signed goaltender Manny Fernandez to a multiyear contract extension.
