Robbery victim found unconscious

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

A man found unconscious in a Spokane city park Thursday morning had been beaten and robbed of his keys by two teenage males, police said.

The 69-year-old victim frequently walks through the park to collect aluminum cans for recycling, said Spokane police spokesman Cpl. Tom Lee. The teenagers apparently told the man it was their park, and the man had no right to be there.

The robbery and beating happened about 4:30 a.m. Thursday at Thornton Murphy Park, 27th Avenue and Fiske Street, Lee said. Paramedics were called by a passerby, who found the victim lying unconscious on the grass.

The victim suffered broken ribs, a cut on his head and other injuries, Lee said.

The suspects are both described as white, in their mid to late teens, with brown hair and average height and build. Both were wearing baseball caps, light-colored shirts and blue jeans.
