City recognized for civic efforts

The Spokesman-Review

Liberty Lake beat out the rest of Washington’s cities to win the Municipal Achiever of the Year award from the Association of Washington Cities.

The association gave the award to recognize Liberty Lake’s efforts at creating its own library from scratch. The library now has collection of 20,000 books, movies, tapes and magazines. More than half of the residents in the city have library cards.

“Liberty Lake was specifically selected for this top honor for their outstanding achievement in furthering community education and creating community cohesiveness,” said Pam Carter, AWC president.

The award is designed to recognize cities that take interesting steps to improve the quality of life for citizens, Carter said.

“Our goal has always been to offer big services in a small community and the library is a perfect example,” said Mayor Steve Peterson.

The city received the award during the AWC’s annual conference in Spokane this week.
