Get out, get going

Ride 'em, cowboy

» Good music, good eats and a good time are on the menu at the Rockin' B Ranch's cowboy supper shows during the summer. Get a taste of the Old West during a cowboy shoot-out (note: no cowboys are harmed in the making of the shoot-out) and then settle in for some toe-tapping fiddling and some good barbecue grub.

» Shows are held from 5:45 to 9 p.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday through Sept. 30. Kids under 10 are $10; adult prices range from $20 to $25 depending on menu selections. Reservations are required. The Ranch is at 3912 Spokane Bridge Road, off the Interstate 90 Stateline exit. Call 891-9016 for details.

Free movies

» Many kids probably have already declared they are bored and have nothing to do. Once the lawn is mowed and the trash is out, send them to the free weekly movies at the Spokane Valley Mall Cinemas. Two different kid-friendly movies are shown at 10 a.m. each Tuesday and Wednesday through Aug. 22. This week's selections are "Curious George" and "Robots."

» Future selections include "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Nanny McPhee," "March of the Penguins" and "Cheaper by the Dozen."

Beetle-mania

» Volkswagen Bugs have inspired many fans (and a few arm-bruising games). If you count yourself among them, check out Bugfair 2006 at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults ($3 with a donation of canned food). Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult.
