Orioles 4, Marlins 0: At Baltimore, Erik Bedard took a one-hitter into the eighth, and Baltimore snapped Florida’s nine-game winning streak. The only Florida batter to reach base over the first seven innings was Alfredo Amezaga, who singled with one out in the fourth.

White Sox 13, Cardinals 5: At Chicago, Paul Konerko, Jim Thome, Joe Crede and Juan Uribe homered and Chicago scored in double digits for the second consecutive night to defeat St. Louis.

Athletics 3, Rockies 2 (11): At Denver, Nick Swisher homered twice, including a solo shot that tied it in the ninth, and scored the winning run in the 11th on Bobby Kielty’s single as Oakland beat Colorado.

Padres 3, Rangers 2: At Arlington, Texas, pinch-runner Ben Johnson raced home from third in the ninth as San Diego took advantage of an error by third baseman Hank Blalock to defeat Texas.

Blue Jays 6, Braves 3: At Atlanta, Lyle Overbay had two RBIs in a four-run third and Toronto handed the Braves their ninth consecutive setback – their longest losing streak in 18 years.

Astros 5, Twins 3: At Houston, Adam Everett had two doubles and Lance Berkman homered as Houston snapped Minnesota’s eight-game winning streak.

Devils Rays 3, Diamondbacks 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., James Shields allowed four hits in seven innings and became the first Tampa Bay pitcher to begin his career with four straight wins by beating Arizona.

Cubs 9, Indians 2 (7): At Cleveland, Carlos Zambrano improved to 5-0 in his last eight starts after a Chicago defeat and the Cubs defeated Cleveland in a rain-shortened game.

Yankees 5, Phillies 0: At Philadelphia, Jaret Wright combined with four relievers on a three-hitter to lead New York over Philadelphia.

Red Sox 9, Nationals 3: At Boston, Jon Lester struck out 10 in six innings, David Ortiz hit a grand slam and Boston defeated Washington for its sixth straight win.

Royals 6, Pirates 4: At Kansas City, Mo., Mark Teahen’s tiebreaking two-run home run off Salomon Torres in the eighth lifted Kansas City over Pittsburgh.

Angels 6, Giants 3: At San Francisco, Maicer Izturis hit a tiebreaking, three-run double off the wall in left in the eighth, and Los Angeles avoided a three-game sweep.

Brewers 4, Tigers 3: At Milwaukee, Rickie Weeks hit a two-run homer with two outs in the seventh as Milwaukee snapped Detroit’s six-game winning streak.
