Get ID packet for children through SCOPE

Families will have several opportunities in the coming months to have free identification records made of their children or elderly relatives.

Operation Family I.D. turns out individual cards bearing photographs and fingerprints of those who might wander off or go missing.

Each individual’s records are also copied onto a computer disk. The ID card and disk are given only to parents. No one else has access to the records.

Volunteers with the Spokane Community Oriented Policing Effort run the operation and will be at several events.

Should a child or older relative become lost, the packet of information may be given to law enforcement to aid in a search.

If circumstances meet the Amber Alert criteria, the information can be quickly transmitted on a nationwide alert system.

Infants’ records should be updated about every six months. Records of children ages 2 and older should be updated every year.

Operation Family I.D. will be offered at the following locations:

•Saturday: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Whimsical Pig apartments, Spokane Valley.

•July 18: 4-7 p.m., Kids’ Safety Fair, Spokane Valley Mall.

•July 22: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Edgecliff Craft Fair, Edgecliff Park.

•July 29: 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Skyfest 2006, Fairchild Air Force Base.

•Aug. 19: Time to be arranged, Unity and the Community, Liberty Park.

•Aug. 23: Time to be arranged, Valley Community Center.

•Sept. 5: 6:30-8:30 p.m., Broadway Elementary School.
