Deputies seek man who stabbed clerk

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Grant County sheriff’s deputies were searching Friday for a robber who stabbed a 78-year-old convenience store clerk in the back of the head and in the hand.

The attack occurred about 2:20 a.m. at the Airway Deli Mart just northwest of Moses Lake on State Route 17. The victim, Frank J. Kerr, was treated and released at Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake.

Kerr told deputies he had turned away from the store counter when a man in his 20s jumped him from behind. The robber apparently injured himself, too, before fleeing with an undetermined amount of cash.

Sheriff Frank De Trolio said the suspect left a trail of blood before driving away. The suspect was described as Hispanic, 5-foot-10, weighing about 165 pounds, and having a thin goatee, mid-length sideburns and medium-length black hair.
