Leslie sparks Los Angeles to win over Storm

Lisa Leslie scored 31 points as the visiting Los Angeles Sparks held off the Seattle Storm 71-70 Sunday night for their 10th win in 11 games.

Leslie shot 14-for-24 and Chamique Holdsclaw added 10 points for Western Conference-leading Los Angeles.

Lauren Jackson had 27 points and eight rebounds, Iziane Castro Marques scored 17 points and Betty Lennox added 14 for fourth-place Seattle. The Storm have lost four straight at home for the first time since 2001 – the franchise’s second season.

Seattle shot 38 percent from the field, including just 5 for 20 on 3-pointers.

Los Angeles, which led 31-28 at halftime, used an 8-0 run to take a 51-43 lead with about 3 minutes left in the third quarter.

Jackson scored 15 of Seattle’s next 17 points as the Storm closed to one at 61-60 midway through the fourth quarter. Castro Marques hit a 3 to the score at 64 with 3:10 left.

Monarchs 94, Shock 61: At Sacramento, Calif., Rebekkah Brunson had a career-high 18 points and eight rebounds as Sacramento routed Detroit.

Liberty 78, Lynx 69: At New York, Barbara Farris and Shameka Christon scored 20 points apiece to help the Liberty beat Minnesota for their season-high third straight victory.

New York snapped a franchise-record six-game losing streak at home, swept the two-game season series and beat Minnesota at home for just the second time in six meetings.

Comets 82, Mercury 80: At Phoenix, Astou Nidaye-Diatta made a 10-footer in the lane with 4.1 seconds left to lift Houston past Phoenix.

Dawn Staley had 17 points and four assists to lead Houston.

Sun 72, Silver Stars 65: At Uncasville, Conn., Asjha Jones matched her career high with 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Connecticut to a win over San Antonio.

Mystics 78, Sting 73: At Washington, DeLisha Milton-Jones scored 22 of her career-high 26 points in the second half to help Washington clinch a playoff berth with a win over Charlotte.

Fever 69, Sky 64: At Chicago, Tamika Catchings had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Indiana past Chicago.
