University of Idaho senior kicker Mike Barrow, a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection in 2005, will miss the 2006 football season because of a knee injury, the school announced Friday.

Barrow tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while playing basketball at his home earlier this week.

Barrow was a preseason selection by The Sporting News.

A three-run sixth inning boosted the Spokane RiverHawks to a 5-3 win over the Bend Elks in a West Coast Collegiate Baseball League game.

The Elks took a 3-0 lead in the first before Spokane came back with two in the second on an RBI double by Shawn Gizynski and a run-scoring hit by Nick Froman. In the Spokane sixth, Brent Mertens tripled in a run and scored on an error on Cale Ort’s grounder. Ort stole second and came home on Froman’s single.

Luke Farden (4-1) went six innings for the win. Tommy Tribbett picked up his second save with three innings of no-hit ball, walking none. Froman was 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

The teams play at Bend today in a 5 p.m. doubleheader.
