Cardinals 8, Braves 3: At St. Louis, Chris Carpenter shut down a surging Atlanta offense that had scored in double digits for 10 straight games, and Jim Edmonds hit a three-run homer, leading St. Louis to a win.

Diamondbacks 8, Dodgers 0: At Phoenix, Miguel Batista pitched a six-hitter and Stephen Drew had three hits to help Arizona beat Los Angeles.

Reds 7, Mets 4: At Cincinnati, Jason LaRue’s two-run double in the eighth sparked Cincinnati to a win over New York. The Reds rallied from a 4-0 deficit.

Giants 7, Brewers 6: At San Francisco, Ray Durham hit a two-run single off closer Derrick Turnbow’s glove in the ninth, giving San Francisco a win over Milwaukee.

Phillies 5, Padres 4: At San Diego, Bobby Abreu hit a two-run double in the ninth off Trevor Hoffman, and Philadelphia avoided a three-game sweep.

Marlins 1, Nationals 0: At Miami, rookie Anibal Sanchez allowed one hit in seven shutout innings, and Cody Ross homered to give Florida a win over Washington.

Pirates 6, Rockies 5: At Pittsburgh, Joe Randa had three RBIs as Pittsburgh beat Colorado to capture its second consecutive series for only the second time this season.
