Rim Drive opens at Crater Lake National Park
PORTLAND – It was delayed by equipment breakdowns and budget problems, but Crater Lake National Park has opened Rim Drive, the road around the caldera that defines the park.
“It was approximately a week later than it might have been,” park spokesman Michael Justin said Tuesday.
Rim Drive circles the crater left by the explosion of a volcano 6,000 to 7,000 years ago, and it is closed by snow much of the year.
