Police evacuate homes in CdA during standoff
Law enforcement evacuated several homes in northeast Coeur d’Alene as a standoff with a 24-year-old man continued late Tuesday night.
Police said they attempted to serve a warrant on Nicolas Castanon for a California parole violation. When police arrived at 5:30 p.m., Castanon barricaded himself in a home near 15th Street and Davis Avenue, according to Sgt. Christie Wood.
“We have information that there are several weapons in the house,” Wood said.
The county’s Special Response Unit arrived to try to resolve the situation peacefully, Wood said.
Police also received a warrant late Tuesday for Castanon as a “person of interest” in a downtown stabbing last month, Woods said.
