Tigers 7, Pirates 6: At Pittsburgh, Carlos Guillen’s two-run triple highlighted Detroit’s four-run third and the Tigers overcame Kenny Rogers’ shaky start to beat Pittsburgh.

Yankees 2, Mets 0: At New York, five pitchers combined on a one-hitter for the Yankees and Jason Giambi homered in a rain-delayed victory at Yankee Stadium.

Devil Rays 11, Nationals 1: At Washington, Carl Crawford hit a pair of two-run homers and Tampa Bay capped its first winning month in franchise history.

Blue Jays 8, Phillies 1: At Toronto, Lyle Overbay homered twice and had five RBIs in the first two innings and Toronto beat Philadelphia for its season-high fourth straight win.

Reds 9, Indians 8: At Cincinnati, Adam Dunn’s grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the ninth vaulted Cincinnati over Cleveland.

Marlins 5, Red Sox 2: At Miami, Dontrelle Willis yielded two runs in seven innings, Miguel Cabrera drove in two and Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla each scored twice, as Florida snapped Boston’s 12-game winning streak.

Braves 5, Orioles 3: At Atlanta, Marcus Giles broke a sixth-inning tie with a two-run single and Chuck James won his second straight start to defeat Baltimore.

Twins 8, Brewers 2: At Minneapolis, Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter hit back-to-back home runs and Brad Radke pitched seven innings as Minnesota beat Milwaukee for its eighth straight win.

Rangers 3, Astros 1: At Arlington, Texas, Mark Teixeira scored the go-ahead run and Texas beat Houston to end a season-high five-game losing streak.

Royals 7, Cardinals 5 (10): At St. Louis, pinch hitter Matt Stairs’ sacrifice fly in the 10th drove in the go-ahead run and Kansas City beat St. Louis, handing its cross-state rivals its ninth loss in 10 games.

Dodgers 6, Angels 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Brad Penny pitched seven strong innings, rookie Andre Ethier went 3 for 4 with a home run and the Dodgers opened the Freeway Series by snapping a 15-game interleague road losing streak.

Diamondbacks 6, Athletics 4: At Oakland, Calif., Eric Byrnes scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the seventh as Oakland beat Arizona.
