Vandals suffer third straight defeat

Nadia Begay buried five 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Boise State Broncos to a 67-54 victory over the Idaho Vandals in Western Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Boise.

Emily Faurholt scored 14 to top the Vandals (7-11, 3-4), who dropped their third straight contest.

Michelle Hessing just missed a double-double for Boise State (12-8, 4-4) with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

The Vandals dominated the first 10 minutes of play, moving out to a 23-11 lead. But Boise State, which outrebounded Idaho 40-21, battled back to take a 34-32 lead at the half.

•Brittney Osborn came off the bench to score a team-high 14 points, her last two coming on a basket with 2 seconds left in the game, to lift the Eastern Washington Eagles (9-9, 3-2) to a 58-56 victory over the Montana Grizzlies (14-4, 3-2) in Big Sky Conference action in Cheney.

Osborn’s 14 points came in just 13 minutes of play.

Jamie Chicane added 12 points and Felice Moore snagged a game-high 10 rebounds for the Eagles, who snapped a 14-game losing streak against Montana.

Montana’s Katie Edwards led all scorers with 20.

•Keisha Moore and Kate Benz each posted double-doubles to power the Washington State Cougars (7-13, 1-10) to an 84-77 win over the Arizona Wildcats (7-14, 3-8) in Pacific-10 Conference play in Pullman.

The win snapped a 12-game losing streak and a 14-game skid in conference action.

Moore hit 9 of 13 shots from the floor and 10 of 13 free throws for a career-high 28 points to go along with a game-high and career-high 12 rebounds. Benz knocked down 8 of 12 shots and 8 of 9 free throws to finish with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Natalie Jones paced the Wildcats with 28 points and 10 rebounds.

•Reserve Amy Denson scored a game-high 18 and the 19th-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils (16-5, 7-4) held on for a 67-61 victory over the Washington Huskies (14-6, 7-4) in Pac-10 play in Seattle.

Central Valley grad Emily Westerberg added 10 points, her last two coming with just less than 2 minutes left that gave the Sun Devils the lead for good at 59-58.

Kristen O’Neill scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Huskies.

•Emily Hendrickson tossed in 17 points and Holly Ridings scored 11 to lead the Whitworth Pirates (12-6, 6-4) to a 58-46 victory over the visiting Linfield Wildcats (10-9, 4-6) in Northwest Conference action.

The win not only moved the Whits into a three-way tie for third in the NWC, it also avenged a 70-65 loss in McMinnville, Ore., earlier. In that one, the Wildcats rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit.

•Sarah Scates tossed in a team-high 11 points and Dee Dee Jackson scored 10 to propel the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (13-8, 3-3) to a 57-49 win over the visiting Walla Walla Warriors in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges action.

Mandy Troutt had game highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds for Walla Walla.

The Warriors had a 46-37 advantage on the boards, but turned the ball over 24 times to just 11 for CC Spokane.

•Reserves Tarah Williams and Lauren Olander each tossed in 15 points to lead the Dixie State Rebels (11-11, 5-5) to a 76-61 upset win over the North Idaho Cardinals (15-6, 8-2) in Scenic West Athletic Conference play in George, Utah.

Caitlin Chourchaine and Sara Dennehy each scored 14 to pace North Idaho. Nichole Scott grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cardinals.
