Forums will address safety topics
The Spokane Police Department, Spokane Public Schools and the Spokane Fire Department are teaming up to form a Community Safety Partnership.
A series of community forums, presented by all three agencies, will offer information on safety topics through interactive demonstrations and questions and answer segments.
The first forum will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Shadle Park High School. The event begins in the auditorium and continues in various classrooms.
Participants will learn about gang identification, drug and alcohol issues, safe walking routes to schools, injury prevention and volunteer opportunities.
Police detectives will lead a discussion of sexual predators.
Neighborhood fire companies with on-duty firefighters and paramedics will demonstrate equipment and apparatus.
The installation and use of child safety seats, the way to wear bicycle helmets and the new helmet law also will be discussed.
These forums are not just for parents and grandparents of students, but for homeowners, business owners and the entire community.
Future forums will rotate among the school district’s high schools and will be held the first Wednesday of every month through the end of the school year.
Future forums will be held March 1 at Rogers High School; April 5 at Lewis and Clark High School; May 3 at North Central High School; and June 7 at Ferris High School.
