Engineers Forum of Spokane – Tom Arnold, chief engineer for the city of Spokane, will speak on construction projects planned in Spokane in 2006, noon Monday at the Holiday Inn Airport, 1616 Windsor Drive. Lunch is available for $11; 244-3467.

Photographing wildlife – The Spokane Audubon Society hosts Roger Hartman speaking on wildlife photography techniques, 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverview Retirement Community, 1801 E. Upriver Drive.

Swimming tryouts – The Spokane Area Swimming group will host winter swim team tryouts at 5 p.m. Mondays through Feb. 20 at the Valley YMCA, 2421 N. Discovery Place and at 5:25 p.m. Tuesdays through Feb. 21 at the Shadle Park Pool at Longfellow and Ash. Slots are available for ages 6-16 who can swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke; 326-7546.

Spokane City Forum – The monthly luncheon features Spokesman-Review editor Steven Smith speaking on “A Question of Values: Why Healthy Communities Require a Healthy Press,” 11:45 a.m. Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S.
