Tax, bookkeeping business open in time for busy season
A new Spokane Valley business is offering angst-free tax preparation for people who’d prefer to delegate that chore.
ACCUTAX and Bookkeeping opened its doors in time to usher in tax season – a nerve-wracking time for some households and businesses. The season officially begins Friday, when the Internal Revenue Service starts accepting electronic filings and ends April 17. But the surrounding weeks are busy with preparations and late-filings.
Scott Plumb, who recently opened the business with Bob Gordon, said half the company’s annual business will happen in the next few months.
“We’re just about to really get going,” said Plumb, who operated a bookkeeping and tax business in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past 20 years.
Gordon has 25 years experience with financial services, including running Gordon and Associates, a Spokane Valley business that operated for eight years.
Services offered include tax preparation, electronic filing, refund anticipation loans for businesses and individuals as well as bookkeeping, payroll, insurance and mortgages. While the business handles electronic filings for people who’ve done their own taxes, Plumb said the majority of customers want full tax services.
Tax preparation starts at about $60 for 1040EZ forms. Long forms start at $100 to $200, with fees charged based on the number of schedules.
Plumb said ACCUTAX handles paperwork in any shape or form, but recommends that people organize their documents if they want to save a few dollars on tax preparation services.
“Make sure they have it all in order and not just shoved into a shoebox or envelope. You’d be amazed at what we get,” Plumb said.
ACCUTAX, 12510 E. Sprague Ave., Suite 4, accepts competitors’ coupons and is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Appointments are available before and after business hours. For more information, call 927-3797.
