Iraqi church founder to visit

Partners International is presenting the Rev. Yousif Matty on Tuesday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Service Station, 9315 N. Nevada St.

Matty converted to Christianity 15 years ago while serving as a conscript in Saddam Hussein’s army and is the founder of the Evangelical Church of Iraq.

Since then, he has escaped attempts on his life, has been in hiding for eight months and has helped to found primary schools, a women’s center and a printing center and opened new churches in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq.

Pipe organ concert

Central Lutheran Church, 512 S. Bernard St., is hosting Walter Kroon, a pipe organist, Sunday at 4 p.m.

Kroon was an organist at three churches in the San Diego area for more than 50 years. Since his relocation to Coeur d’Alene, he has played with the Spokane Symphony and is a member of the Spokane Symphony Association, Mechetti Chapter.

Kroon will play selections from Bach, Purvis, Couperin and more.

Christian singles

Spokane Christian Singles is hosting two speed-dating events this weekend at Godfather’s Pizza, 15402 E. Sprague Ave.

The first event will be today at 4 p.m. for singles in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Singles 45 years old and up will meet Sunday at 2 p.m.

The cost is $10 for the first visit and $7 for any visit after that.
