More Hanky Panky

Several weeks ago I wrote about vintage handkerchiefs and offered a few ways to use them as gifts or as part of your décor.

Kay Veltri, of Spokane, sent a nice note and an idea of her own: “I had been going through some things that have been stored away for a long time and I came across a box of hankies that had been given to me for birthdays, Christmas, etc.,” Veltri wrote. “I do not remember who gave the hankies to me, but they used to be included in cards and such. They have all been used and washed many times.”

Veltri’s daughter helped her choose fabric and trim and then created a one-of-a-kind table runner out of the hankies.

“She doubled the fabric so that the right side is on both sides and folded the hankies as a triangle and sewed them in-between,” she wrote. “It turned out so nice and just fits the top of the table with the end hankies hanging over.”

I think Veltri and her daughter came up with a wonderful way to make something new and useful out of vintage handkerchiefs. If you’d like to share your project, drop me a line or give me a call.

Appraisal Days

The “Antiques Roadshow” may not make it to Spokane, but we do have a great opportunity to learn more about antiques. Antique Appraisal Days at the MAC will be at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture March 24 and 25. For $10 per item (limit of five items) you can bring your treasures to the museum to be appraised by professionals. Money raised benefits the Campbell House Restoration and Preservation. For more information, call 456-3931.
