Neighborhood groups to designate funds
The Emerson-
Garfield neighborhood steering committee will allocate $13,409 of federal funds it will receive through Spokane’s Community Development office to agencies and program benefiting its neighborhood.
The steering committee had $50,000 in requests for the $13,409.
The West Central Community Center youth programs will receive $4,875 and COPS North Central will receive $4,250.
Other allocations include $1,000 to the Volunteers of America emergency assistance program; $1,890 to the Corbin Senior Center; $444 to Spokane’s Second Harvest Food Bank; $500 to Gonzaga University’s Center for Community Action, which works with Garfield Elementary students; $250 to the YMCA Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and $200 to Project Joy, the local senior performance organization.
In addition to the money for social services, the Emerson-Garfield steering committee will divide another $75,986 among programs for sidewalk repairs, neighborhood home rehabilitation, building upgrades for the Corbin Senior Center and improvements to Corbin Park.

•The North Indian Trail Council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 8441 N. Indian Trail Road.
•The Emerson/Garfield Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland Ave.
•The Nevada/Lidgerwood Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the council office, 4705 N. Addison St.
•The West Central Neighborhood Council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at West Central Community Center, 1603 N. Belt St. Nominations will be accepted for election of officers. Kendall Yards representative Tom Reese will be attending upcoming meetings, giving neighbors a chance to comment on the project at the south end of the West Central neighborhood.
•The Bemiss Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. next Thursday at Northeast Community Center, 4001 N. Cook St.
•The North Hill Neighborhood Council will meet at 7 p.m. next Thursday at Willard Elementary School, 500 W. Longfellow Ave.
