Eastern faces Weber State

After Eastern Washington ran its winning streak to three with an overtime win over Portland State Saturday night, Eagles men’s basketball coach Mike Burns was asked about the two road games coming up.

But to Burns and the Eagles there is only one game that matters, tonight’s 6:05 Big Sky Conference matchup at Weber State. A trip to Cal State Fullerton on Saturday for a Bracket Buster-produced, non-conference matchup isn’t on the radar.

“Our sole concern is Weber right now,” Burns said. “Fullerton is a big game, but at the end of the day it doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things what we do down there. But Weber is huge. They’re playing well right now and it’s going to take a tremendous effort in their building to beat them.”

EWU (11-12, 6-4), which is 2-21 in Ogden, can clinch a ninth straight berth in the Big Sky tournament and solidify its chance for a first-round home game with a win over Weber (10-14, 4-7).

But this isn’t the same Wildcats team that limped out of Reese Court last month. Weber lost 59-50, but it immediately won four straight before losing at conference-leading Northern Arizona on Saturday.
