Grocery Outlet opening 124th store

A new option for groceries opens in Coeur d’Alene this week. The ribbon-cutting for Coeur d’Alene Grocery Outlet will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, and the grand opening will be Saturday. The store is in 18,000 square feet in the southern portion of the former Tidyman’s building at 410 W. Neider Ave.

The celebration starts at 8 a.m. Friday with a raffle, coffee, treats and spin-the-wheel bargains and prizes. From 10 a.m. to noon and from 4 to 6 p.m. are a hot dog and soda benefit sale for North Idaho Christian School and a second raffle.

The inventory includes dairy products, packaged deli items, produce, frozen foods, candy, beer, wine, bread and packaged and canned groceries. The store is the 124th of the Grocery Outlet chain, which has its headquarters in Berkeley, Calif.

The store will have 27 to 30 employees. The local operators are Sarena and Steve Mayer. She is a Spokane native, and he is from Van Nuys, Calif., and then Medical Lake. The Coeur d’Alene store will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Phone: (208) 765-3141.

Post Falls vets buy CdA clinic

With uncommon specialties, Frank Clovis and Dennis Thomas have purchased the Animal Medical Center of North Idaho at 1902 E. Sherman Ave. in Coeur d’Alene. Catering to dogs, cats and “pocket pets,” the vets also have River City Animal Clinic in Post Falls.

A native of Coeur d’Alene and a graduate of Washington State University, Clovis specializes in animal oncology, dentistry and orthopedics. A graduate of Texas A&M University and a former resident of Texas and the Cayman Islands, Thomas has skills in animal acupuncture, herbal medicine and dermatology.

Stephen Lindsay, who owned the Sherman Avenue practice for 12 years, will continue part time and plans to offer a pet bird clinic next fall. The clinic, which has three additional employees, is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Phone: (208) 667-3418.

Hippo Car Wash coming soon

With a 140-foot car wash tunnel and central vacuum outlets for 12 cars, Hippo Car Wash is under construction at 510 Bosanko Ave. (behind Fast Lane Quick Lube on Highway 95) in Coeur d’Alene.

The business, which is expected to open in April, will use “space-age technology for fast, clean cars,” according to Dean Boever, who owns the store with Mike Threadgill. Originally from Drummond, Mont., Boever came from Yakima in 1990 and used to own the Sea of Subs Shop. A Coeur d’Alene native, Threadgill is an agent with Hope Realty. They will have about 12 employees.

Antique mall moves to Kathleen

The Coeur d’Alene Antique Mall, which has 70 to 75 dealers, will open next week at 215 Kathleen Ave. (next to Lou Lou’s Sporting Goods). The store is leaving its home of 12 years at 3650 Government Way.

Originally from Pierce, Idaho, owner Jan Shubert started the store 23 years ago when she moved here from Oregon. It’s open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 to 5:30 Sundays. Phone: (208) 667-0246.
