NIC prevails in OT

Mac Hopson had 23 points, five rebounds and six assists, and North Idaho shot 14 of 18 from the free-throw line in overtime to defeat Snow College 76-68 Friday night in a Scenic West Athletic Conference men’s basketball game at Christianson Gym in Coeur d’Alene.

NIC (18-5, 8-3) made 4 of 6 free throws in regulation.

Frank Clair added 14 points, and Keelan Donald had 11 points and six rebounds for the Cardinals, who shot just 37 percent from the floor.

Geoff Payne scored 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Badgers (6-16, 4-7), and Chris Hoopes added 14 points.

Baseball

Zach Woodward hit a two-out single in the eighth inning to score Bobby Carlson and give Gonzaga a 7-6 victory over Lamar (0-1) at the Texas Pan American Tournament in Edinburg, Texas.

Nate Williams (1-0) struck out four and allowed one unearned run in three innings of relief to earn the win for the Bulldogs (1-1). Starter Patrick Donovan threw the first six innings, allowing five runs on three hits and walking six.

Woodward finished 3 for 5 with three singles, and freshman catcher Tyson Van Winkle added a two-run double for his first collegiate hit.

GU continues tournament play today against Texas State.

Women’s basketball

Ash Gilmore scored a game-high 10 points, and Sara Dennehy had eight points and six rebounds as North Idaho routed Snow 71-44 in a Scenic West Athletic Conference game in Christianson Gym.

Nichole Scott added nine points, and Lindsey Koppen and Paige McGowan each had eight for the Cardinals (16-6, 9-2), who shot 58 percent from the floor.

Lacie Titmus had 10 points and seven rebounds to lead the Badgers (8-13, 3-8), who shot just 15 of 53 overall (28 percent).
