Hurricanes storm past NHL-leading Ducks

Ray Whitney had a goal and two assists, and Rod Brind’Amour added a goal and an assist Friday night in the Carolina Hurricanes’ 4-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in Raleigh, N.C.

Cam Ward made 25 saves, and Erik Cole scored an empty-netter in the final minute to seal it in a matchup of the defending Stanley Cup champions and the NHL’s top team.

Teemu Selanne scored two quick goals in the second for the Ducks, who have lost three of their last six games.

Blues 4, Avalanche 2: At Denver, Martin Rucinsky scored two goals and Manny Legace beat Colorado for the eighth straight time in St. Louis’ win.

Penguins 4, Maple Leafs 1: At Pittsburgh, Sergei Gonchar scored the go-ahead goal and set up another by Evgeni Malkin and the Penguins scored three power-play goals, ending a five-game losing streak by beating Toronto.

Stars 4, Predators 1: At Dallas, Antti Miettinen had a career-high two goals, both on power plays, and Jere Lehtinen scored the go-ahead goal on a power play to help the Stars beat Central Division-leading Nashville.

Panthers 3, Canadiens 1: At Sunrise, Fla., Ed Belfour made 32 saves and Nathan Horton scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period in Florida’s victory over Montreal.

Bruins 5, Blackhawks 3: At Chicago, Glen Murray, Mark Mowers, Milan Jurcina, Patrice Bergeron and Marc Savard scored, and Boston held on for a victory over the Blackhawks.

Flames 6, Kings 4: At Calgary, Alberta, Jarome Iginla scored his 21st goal of the season and had three assists as the Flames beat Los Angeles.

Devils 4, Capitals 3: At East Rutherford, N.J., Scott Gomez had two goals and an assist to lead New Jersey past Washington.

Senators 1, Rangers 0: At Ottawa, Ray Emery made 27 saves for his second straight shutout, Daniel Alfredsson scored in the first minute and the Senators beat New York.

Wild 4, Blue Jackets 3 (OT): At St. Paul, Minn., Wes Walz scored a controversial goal 1:29 into overtime to give Minnesota a win over Columbus.
