NASA contributes to warmer feet

Developed by NASA for astronauts, the insulation in Toasty Feet insoles is getting a warm reception on Earth.

The insoles are made of Aerogel, the highest thermal insulation of any solid material and three times the insulating power of Thinsulate, according to the Memphis-based manufacturer, PolarWrap.

The product has received good reviews from Mount Everest climbers, who removed the foam insoles from their boots and custom cut their thin, lightweight Toasty Feet insoles as replacements.

Price: $13, www.Toastyfeet.com or (800) 967-9727.

A Yellowstone Christmas

Nature photographer Tom Murphy’s 27-year odyssey to capture Yellowstone National Park in winter images will be featured tonight, 7 p.m., on KSPS-TV in a PBS Nature documentary, “Christmas in Yellowstone.”

Enduring winter with a camera is “an opportunity to see this country at its wildest and most beautiful time, when the cold and snow keep most people away,” Murphy said. “It’s my church, my cathedral. You get a sense of what happens when life is left alone.”
