State teams named

The Southeast and Northeast 1B leagues placed six players on the Associated Press All-State Football first team list Wednesday, led by the four selections from state champion St. John-Endicott.

Phillip Luft, Eric Johnson, Justin Taylor and Jacob Clements were all first-team selections for the Eagles.

Other first-team selections include Ferris’ Jared Karstetter and Gonzaga Prep’s Spencer Savage in 4A. Colville’s John Roberts, Logan Goff and Cody Yecha, and Pullman’s J.T. Levenseller made the 2A first team.

Wrestling

Mike Pursel’s 14-3 major decision over Lewis and Clark’s Jessie Halley in the 152-pound weight class helped North Central top the host Tigers 43-32 in a Greater Spokane meet. Frank Lappano (171) and Thomas Montague (140) notched pins for North Central and Dan Bolen (189) defeated Isaac Fry 8-2. LC forfeited three matches. … Elsewhere, Mead won their first four matches of the meet and cruised to a 56-24 win over visiting Shadle Park. Nick Bond (145) and Joey Farley (152) notched big upset wins for the Panthers. All four of the Highlanders victories came by way of pin. … Central Valley won six of the first nine matches and beat host Ferris 40-24. The Saxons forfeited two of their matches. … Freshman Wyatt Maguire’s (112) upset win over Vang Lor helped Mt. Spokane beat visiting Rogers 55-18. Ryan Rabe, Cody Hughes, Wes Reasor, Aaron Low, Noah Hatton and Rjan Robertson all notched pins for the Wildcats.

Boys basketball

Cody Smith scored 19 points and Micah Smith added 15 as Priest River outdueled host Kettle Falls 92-88 in a non-league game.

Aaron Harty scored 14 points and Dustin Lehman added 13 for Priest River (6-3). Brian Strobel scored a team-high 18 points for Kettle Falls (1-3).

Drake Hanson scored 22 points, including six 3-pointers, as Sandpoint came back to beat tournament-host Cheney 52-41 at the Blackhawk tournament. Kyle Meaux added eight points for the Bulldogs (4-2), who outrebounded the Blackhawks (1-3) 30-19. … Also at the Blackhawk tournament, senior Ty Stoddard scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists, guiding Lake City (5-2) to a 60-42 win over Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls). Travis Corigliano scored 14 points and collected seven rebounds to lead the Eagles (4-2).

Colton Curtis scored 26 points and David Ramacus added 22 as Medical Lake beat Hood River 69-59 at the Pendleton (Ore.) tournament. The Cardinals (2-2) outscored Hood River 24-13 in the second quarter to take a 40-31 lead into halftime.

Spencer Pingel scored 17 points and Brandon Haas added 15 points and seven rebounds as Post Falls beat Mac Hi 93-70 at the Baker City (Ore.) invitational. The Trojans (4-3) outscored Mac Hi 50-35 in the second half.

Girls basketball

Tabitha Clark scored 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, leading Priest River to a 58-42 non-league win over host Kettle Falls. Lacy Hopkins added 10 points for the Spartans (8-4), who outscored the Bulldogs 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 33-19 lead into halftime. Dakoda Rogelette tallied 12 points to lead Kettle Falls (1-3).

Kiki Edwards-Teasley scored 10 points, helping Lewiston beat Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) 53-46 at the Blackhawk Tournament. The Bengals (5-4) outscored the Eagles (4-2) 35-23 in the second half to erase a five-point halftime deficit. Kia Gibson scored 10 points and collected 11 rebounds to lead Lakeside.
