Hot-shooting Davidson slips past Gonzaga

Danielle Hemerka scored 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting as Davidson topped Gonzaga 77-69 Wednesday in a non-conference game at the McCarthey Athletic Center.

Brynn Kelly, a 2003 Ferris graduate, added five points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Wildcats (11-2).

Michelle Elliott scored 16 points and Jami Bjorklund and Stephanie Hawk added 14 apiece for the Bulldogs (7-8).

Davidson shot 50 percent from the field, including 11 of 22 from beyond the 3-point arc.

“Kelsey Kahle scored a team-high 21 points and Delaney Conway added 15 as host Portland State (3-8) beat Idaho 77-48 in non-conference play.

Katie Madison led the Vandals with 27 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added nine rebounds.

The Vandals (3-6) fell behind 42-16 in the first half.

“Serena Benavente scored 20 points and Lauren Shaughnessy added 17 as Saint Mary’s (4-7) beat visiting Eastern Washington 74-66 in non-conference play at Moraga, Calif.

Benavente converted on all 14 of her free-throw attempts.

Joanna Chadd led the Eagles (4-8) with 24 points and Katy Baker added 10 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Benson chipped in eight points, eight rebounds and four steals for EWU.
