Fresh Sheet : Wild Game Feast back on NIC menu

Buffalo oxtail soup, quail breast and kangaroo medallions are not on your average Northwest dinner menu.

But each year the North Idaho College Alumni Association and Coeur d’Alene Inn Chef Gene Tillman join forces to design a feast that is a bit wild.Tickets are now on sale for NIC’s annual Wild Game Feast. It will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Coeur d’Alene Inn, 414 W. Appleway in Coeur d’Alene.

Tickets are $55 per person or $50 for NIC Alumni Association members. Along with the buffalo soup, quail breast and kangaroo the feast this year will also feature Northwest cheese and fruit along with caribou meatball appetizers. The four-course dinner begins at 6:45. Dessert will be an espresso chocolate cake.

Proceeds benefit the NIC Alumni Association and scholarships for students.

Five-course fundraiser

If you’re splurging on New Year’s consider a fete that will ultimately help others.

Catered For You and The Shilo Inn Hotel will host a New Year’s Eve Celebration to help usher 2006 into the history books. Chef Romeo Herrera and his team will be making a five-course dinner, featuring Northwest flavors. Each course will be paired with wines provided by local wineries. The event will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. on Dec. 31.

The dinner, along with a hotel room at the Shilo Inn for two, is $225 per couple. All profits will be donated to the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant, a nonprofit group dedicated to providing meals in a safe and supportive environment for women and children.
