Desjarlais earns national honor

North Idaho College sophomore goalkeeper Makayla Desjarlais recently became the first Cardinals women’s soccer player to earn National Junior College Athletic Association All-American honors.

Desjarlais, of Post Falls, received honorable mention recognition after captaining the Cardinals to a 10-4-2 record and its first league championship during an undefeated conference season.

She previously was selected as Scenic West Athletic Conference Player of the Year.

Twin brothers Zach and Matt Johnson of Tumwater High School have made an oral commitment to play football at Eastern Washington University, according to their coach, Sid Otton.

Both players were four-year starters for Otton at Tumwater. Otton said in his 32 years at Tumwater, just three players have started all four years.
