No end of sites to visit
Jeff Thomas is president and CEO of Spokane-based Ambassadors Group Inc. The job has him logging about 100,000 air miles a year. “I’ve stopped counting.”
The Web has become an indispensable tool for me. I have multiple wireless systems on my laptop so I can connect from wherever I am in the world.
News
I read newspapers online, including www.online.wsj.com, www.nytimes.com and www.spokesmanreview.com, so I don’t need to worry about getting the paper delivered or newsprint on my hands.
I have customized www.news.google.com so I see the types of stories that are breaking throughout the day.
Golf
I enjoy following sports, and there are many sites that create opportunities to understand in depth what is driving the performances that are seen on TV, such as www.pgatour.com.
Blogs
I also surf several blogs, including www.freakonomics.com/blog, in which the author of the book “Freakonomics” discusses his observations on life from a more analytical and data-driven perspective.
Travel
There are also sites that I visit as part of being in the travel business. One, www.tripadvisor.com, is very helpful to see customer reviews of various hotels and travel opportunities. In addition, www.flightaware.com is an excellent site for tracking flights. In fact, as I write this, they are tracking nearly 5,000 flights in the United States, all displayed using maps and animation.
Children
My kids’ school in California ( www.harborday.org) has created a great space for parents on its Web site to keep in touch with what is going at the school, as well as homework assignments.
