Tar Heels devour Bulldogs

Camille Little scored 18 points, and Ivory Latta added 15 points and six assists to lead No. 2 North Carolina to a 92-42 victory Saturday night over South Carolina State.

Jessica Breland added 13 points, and Rashanda McCants had 10 for North Carolina (11-0). Little hit five of her first seven shots and had 12 points by halftime, when North Carolina led 40-17.

Brittany Baity had 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 turnovers for South Carolina State (1-8). Sophilia Hipps led the Bulldogs in scoring with 14 points.

South Carolina State had more turnovers (34) than baskets (17).

Erlana Larkins grabbed 12 rebounds and LaToya Pringle had 10 as North Carolina outrebounded South Carolina State 54-37.

South Carolina State committed 20 turnovers in the first half and shot just 8 for 27 (29.6 percent) from the floor.

The Bulldogs shot worse in the second (25.7 percent), hitting 9 of 35 as North Carolina pulled away.

South Carolina State went 7:03 without a basket as North Carolina went on a 21-0 run midway through the first half.

(8) Ohio St. 98, Alabama A&M 55: At Columbus, Ohio, Brandie Hoskins had 18 points and four other Ohio State players scored in double digits as the Buckeyes (8-1) defeated the Bulldogs (4-4).

Jessica Davenport scored 16 points and had seven rebounds for Ohio State, followed by Marscilla Packer with 14 points, while Andrea Walker and Star Allen both had 12.

Tamika Green had 16 points to lead the Bulldogs, but the Buckeyes held Alabama A&M to 30 percent shooting (19 of 63). Ohio State outrebounded the Bulldogs 42-24.

(13) Purdue 75, Mississippi St. 49: At West Lafayette, Ind., Erin Lawless had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Boilermakers (9-2) to a victory over the Lady Bulldogs (4-5).

Jodi Howell had a career-high 17 points and Katie Gearlds finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds to help Purdue win.

Alexis Rack had 15 points and Marneshia Richard added 11 points and seven rebounds for Mississippi St., who shot 27 percent from the field en route to its fourth consecutive defeat.

(14) Stanford 74, Utah 47: At Stanford, Calif., Jayne Appel scored 15 points, Jillian Harmon had 14 and Candice Wiggins added 13 to help the Cardinal (5-3) rout the Utes (5-5).

Cissy Pierce also finished in doubles figures, scoring 10 for Stanford in its third straight victory.

Joh-Teena Filipe scored 12 points for Utah, which had a four-game winning streak stopped. Morgan Warburton finished the game with 11 points.

(16) Louisville 80, Belmont 51: At Louisville, Ky., Chauntise Wright had 21 points and seven rebounds to lead the Cardinals (11-0) over the Bruins (7-3).

Helen Johnson scored 14 points in her first game since serving a five-game suspension for violating team rules. Angle McCoughtry added 13 points and eight rebounds for Louisville.

Shaunda Strayhorn led Belmont with 12 points. Scoring leader Alysha Clark managed just nine points, seven less than her season average.

(20) George Washington 62, Auburn 51: At Washington, Kenan Cole scored 15 points and the Colonials (9-2) held off a late Tigers (9-3) rally for victory.

Sarah-Jo Lawrence added 14 points and Kimberly Beck had 12 points for George Washington. Whitney Allen had a game-high 12 rebounds to go with six points.

DeWanna Bonner recorded her fourth double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for Auburn, which saw its six-game winning streak end. Trevesha Jackson added 11 points.

(25) Arkansas 78, Tulsa 67: At Tulsa, Okla., Donica Cosby scored 11 consecutive points in a span of 1:39 to thwart a Golden Hurricanes (4-6) comeback and lead the Lady Razorbacks (11-1) to a victory.

Cosby scored 21 points for Arkansas. Charity Ford made 3 of 5 3-pointers and scored 14 points, as did post player Lauren Ervin.

Jillian Robbins had 17 points, 15 rebounds, three steals and a block for the Golden Hurricane. Jamie Dreiling scored 14 points and Valerie Siemens added 12 points and nine rebounds.
