Idaho State hires Zamberlin
Former Eastern Washington University assistant coach John Zamberlin was named the head coach at Idaho State University on Friday.
He replaces Larry Lewis, who coached at ISU for eight years before being fired following a 2-9 season.
Zamberlin was head coach at Central Washington University the past 10 years and posted a 63-41 record with the Wildcats. His 38-16 mark the past five seasons is the best among four-year institutions in the state of Washington.
Zamberlin got his first taste of the Big Sky Conference as the linebackers coach at EWU, working for both Dick Zornes and Mike Kramer. He was a part of their 1992 NCAA I-AA playoff squad that won a share of the Big Sky title.
Zamberlin played linebacker in the NFL for six seasons, playing 78 total games with the New England Patriots (1979-1982) and the Kansas City Chiefs (1983-1984). He was a fifth-round draft choice of New England out of Pacific Lutheran University.
