Crosby, Malone propel Pens to win

Sidney Crosby assisted on all three of Ryan Malone’s goals and scored his 16th goal to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to their fourth straight victory, 7-4 over the New York Islanders on Friday night in Pittsburgh.

The 19-year-old Crosby, the NHL scoring leader, has 10 points in his last two games. He had a goal and five assists in an 8-4 victory over Philadelphia on Wednesday night.

Malone was scoreless through his first 11 games this season until he had a goal and three assists against Philadelphia.

Mark Recchi, Jordan Staal and Maxime Talbot also scored for Pittsburgh.

Jason Blake, Tom Poti, Miroslav Satan and Mike York each had a goal and an assist for New York.

Maple Leafs 4, Hurricanes 3: Alexander Steen scored with 6 minutes remaining to lead Toronto to a victory over Carolina in coach Paul Maurice’s return to Raleigh, N.C.

Mats Sundin had two goals and an assist, and former Spokane Chief Bryan McCabe added a goal and two assists for the Maple Leafs.

Capitals 3, Thrashers 2 (OT): At Atlanta, Alex Ovechkin scored his third goal of the game 6 seconds into overtime to power Washington past the Thrashers. Ovechkin stole an apparent victory from Atlanta by scoring the tying goal with only 30 seconds left in regulation.

Avalanche 4, Oilers 1: At Denver, John-Michael Liles and Wojtek Wolski scored second-period goals to lead Colorado past Edmonton for its third straight victory.

Milan Hejduk and Tyler Arnason also had goals for Colorado. Joe Sakic extended his point streak to five games with two assists.
