What’s with the floppy hair?

Our weekly look at the four Division I men’s basketball teams begins today. In today’s Q&A, staff writer Steve Bergum spends a little time with Gonzaga freshman sensation Matt Bouldin. Here’s a sampling:

S-R: I’ve got to ask about the floppy hair. How long have you worn it that way?

Bouldin: Since the summer of my eighth-grade year. I just felt like growing it out, so I did, and it’s become kind of a trademark thing where people recognize me by it.

S-R: Any styling secrets you would like to share?

Bouldin: Shower and towel – that’s it. I haven’t used a comb in quite a while.

See page C5 for more on Bouldin, a feature on Eastern center Matt Butorac, a quick look at upcoming games, notes from around the conferences and area stat leaders.

Vidro appears headed to M’s

Second baseman Jose Vidro would be sent to the Seattle Mariners by the Washington Nationals for two prospects in a tentative trade that is pending physicals for all players involved, a person with knowledge of the deal said Wednesday night.

It is believed the Nationals would receive outfielder Chris Snelling and right-hander Emiliano Fruto. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been completed.

“I’m really looking forward to the opportunity to go to the American League and play for a team that has a pretty good shot,” Vidro told the Washington Post.

Seahawks game not on local TV

The Seahawks game tonight against San Francisco will be shown on the NFL Network, which is not part of the basic cable package.

Viewers in the area with digital cable or satellite service will be able to watch the game on the NFL Network. In Seattle, the game will be available on the local Fox affiliate, but that does not extend to the Spokane area.
