NIC holiday concert tonight, Sunday

The Spokesman-Review

This year’s annual holiday concert at North Idaho College tonight and Sunday afternoon will include the traditional holiday songs and the sing-alongs that bring the crowd to its feet each year.

“Sounds of Christmas” will feature several holiday-themed pieces by the NIC Wind Symphony led by Terry Jones. The band will perform “The Eighth Candle: Prayer and Dance for Hanukah,” “Good Swing Wencelas,” a swing version of the traditional carol, “Fantasia on a 13th Century Carol” and “Christmas Legends,” which includes a variety of classic Christmas carols.

The NIC Concert Choir, Madrigal Singers, and Jazz Co. jazz choir will focus on a variety of music for all ages, ranging from the Italian Baroque to Christmas classics. Performances will include the Ukrainian carol “Carol of the Bells,” Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria,” the 12th-century carol “Personent Hodie” and a Spanish Christmas song called “A la nanita nana.”

The NIC choral groups, which are conducted by Max Mendez, will then join forces with the band for the traditional holiday sing-along of well-known Christmas carols with the audience.

“Sounds of Christmas” will be at 7:30 p.m. tonight and 2 p.m. Sunday in NIC’s Boswell Hall Schuler Auditorium.

The concert is free and open to the public. For more information, call (208) 769-3276.
