Time to take the lemon pledge
Now we know George Clooney‘s take on his infamous night out with Danny DeVito.
An apparently inebriated DeVito showed up on “The View” last Wednesday morning, making off-color comments and explaining he and Clooney had spent the night slamming down limoncello, a lemon-flavored liqueur.
“It wasn’t like we were out drinking,” Clooney said on Monday’s “Today” show. “We were at a restaurant, sitting down …
“I was in bed by 11:30 at night and I woke up at, you know, 7 and I was still drunk. … It was a brutal night.”
Asked how much was consumed, Clooney replied: “A lot. … I got to the point where I was dumping the shots into, ah, you know, a plant next to me and, um, I don’t think … I don’t think Danny saw me do that.”
The women of “The View,” meanwhile, say there are no hard feelings.
“You know, we love him,” co-host Barbara Walters says of DeVito. “We’ll have him on again … better sober than not.”
Oh-oh – LL’s in AA
Hard-partying Lindsay Lohan has been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, according to her spokeswoman.
Publicist Leslie Sloane says Lohan, 20, made the decision on her own, adding: “And, by the way, she’s not saying … she’ll stop drinking tomorrow.
“It’s a place to go and feel safe,” Sloane says. “No one judges her, and it’s going to be a slow process. But, to me, the fact that she’s seeing that there’s something not right makes her smarter than the next person.”

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton canceled a planned appearance at Monday night’s Billboard Music Awards because she didn’t like the jokes written for her.
“It is my understanding that some satirical references ridiculed some of her peers,” said her spokesman, Elliot Mintz. “Paris did not want to say anything that could appear hurtful or embarrassing about people she knows.”
Mending offenses
Michael Richards will apologize in person to the four black patrons he targeted in a tirade of racial slurs during a comedy club performance.
A retired judge will mediate the meeting and determine whether he should act further to resolve the matter, according to Richards’ spokesman and an attorney for the customers. A cash settlement could be part of the deal.
Richards already has apologized on the Rev. Jesse Jackson‘s radio program and on the “Late Show with David Letterman.”
But will his ratings stay up?
Speaking of David Letterman, CBS announced Monday that he’s signed a contract to continue his “Late Show” until at least 2010.
That means Letterman plans to stay on the air longer than late-night rival Jay Leno. NBC has said that Leno will give way to Conan O’Brien on the “Tonight” show in 2009.
