Pistons win 7th straight as Wade misfires

Dwyane Wade missed two open jumpers in the final 67 seconds Thursday to cap a bad shooting night, and the Detroit Pistons held off the Miami Heat 87-85 at Miami to extend their winning streak to seven games.

Wade, who had scored at least 33 points in each of the past three games, shot only 5 for 23 and scored 21 points. With Miami trailing 86-85, he missed from 18 feet with 1:07 left, then missed again from 19 feet with 2 seconds left.

Richard Hamilton, who guarded Wade much of the night, went 9 for 17 and led Detroit with 24 points.

The Heat lost despite 20 points and 10 rebounds from Udonis Haslem.

The game, the first this season between the two teams, was a rematch of the Eastern Conference finals the past two seasons.

Lakers 132, Jazz 102: At Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant scored a season-high 52 points, making all nine of his shots in the third quarter in Los Angeles’ victory over Utah.

Bryant scored 30 points in the third quarter and topped the 50-point plateau for the 12th time in his career.

Wilkens joins Sonics again

Lenny Wilkens, the NBA’s career victory leader who coached Seattle to its only NBA title in 1979, re-joined the team as vice chairman of the SuperSonics’ new ownership group.

In the new position created by Oklahoma City businessman Clay Bennett, chairman of the new ownership group, the Professional Basketball Club, Wilkens will oversee external community relations and business advancement activities, as well as be an adviser on basketball operations.

Sixers’ Randolph breaks ankle

Philadelphia 76ers forward Shavlik Randolph was scheduled to undergo surgery after he broke his left ankle at practice and was taken to a hospital.
