Spurs guard pops question to Eva

Her marriage didn’t work out on “Desperate Housewives,” but things are looking rosy in real life for Eva Longoria: She’s engaged to her beau, basketball star Tony Parker.

“Tony flew into Los Angeles last night after his game and surprised Eva at her home as she got off work,” Longoria’s spokeswoman, Liza Anderson, told The Associated Press on Thursday via e-mail.

“The proposal was romantic and perfect. The couple plans to wed in France in the summer of 2007 in what they describe as a big, happy ceremony with lots of family and friends.”

The 31-year-old Longoria, who plays crafty Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC show, met Parker, a 24-year-old Frenchman, in the San Antonio Spurs’ locker room after a game two years ago.

Sac State sacks football coach

The Sacramento State athletics department has decided not to renew the contract of head football coach Steve Mooshagian.

Mooshagian recently completed his fourth year as head coach of the Hornets. His teams posted an 11-33 overall record, including a 4-7 mark this past season. The Hornets beat Big Sky Conference foe Eastern Washington 21-20 in Cheney this past season.

Mooshagian said he was a little surprised, “because nothing was ever said to me about ‘You need to win this many games.’ I consider myself a man of character, so I knew if I was in that situation, I would do it differently.”

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately, the school said.

Even ride home rough for Idaho

Idaho’s night only got tougher after losing to Washington 87-66 Wednesday, according to the Seattle Times. The Vandals’ bus broke down shortly into the trip home and they needed assistance from the Washington State Patrol to get to a nearby hotel.

A.D. Rob Spear said he talked with head coach George Pfeifer twice Wednesday night.

“He said they were stuck there for 90 minutes,” Spear said. “He said, ‘I knew this was going to be tough, but I didn’t know it was going to be this tough.’ ”
