New school principals among staff changes
Several staffing changes are taking place in Spokane Public Schools this school year.
Students in four elementary schools will have a new principal roaming the halls in 2006-07.
Don Warner, who previously was the principal at Sheridan Elementary School, will take over at Hamblen Elementary on the South Hill.
At Sheridan, Warner’s positions will be filled by new principal Pete Hall, from the Reno, Nev., area.
Julia Lockwood, formerly a principal assistant at Holmes Elementary, is the new principal at Longfellow Elementary School.
At Franklin Elementary, Mickey Hansen replaces Mary Seeman, who retired. Hansen was the principal at Longfellow.
New assistant principal assignments at the middle and high schools include:
Garry Middle School: Kimberly Stretch, a former district teacher and instructional coach,
Glover Middle School: Nancy Lopez, a former principal assistant at Shaw Middle School.
Ferris High School: Kim Halcro, from out of district.
North Central High School: Scott Friedman, also from another district.
Rogers High School: Brian Leavitt, who previously was a teacher at Rogers, and Kerri Ames, from another district.
Shadle Park High School: Ivan Corley, who previously was a Shadle principal assistant.
Shifts in administrative staff also are planned at the district office.
Howard De Leeuw was named the coordinator for the English language development program. De Leeuw previously was an instructional math coach at NC and a literacy coach at Havermale High School. He also directed summer school at NC this year.
Lydia Fesler, previously the district literacy coordinator, is the new elementary literacy, kindergarten, library and social studies coordinator.
Alice Franklin will be the coordinator of the Title I and Learning Assistance Programs, and Linda Wert will be the coordinator for the elementary Title and LAP programs.
The district has also hired a new director of safety and security, and transportation. Jason Conley, a graduate of Shadle Park High School and Eastern Washington University, previously was the director of security operations for Riverfront Park.
LC kids’ art on display
The advanced work of several Lewis and Clark High School art students is on display at the Mobius Kids museum in RiverPark Square in downtown Spokane.
“The work is a nice mix of mediums and subject matter,” said Bridgid Kardong, teacher and director of the art department at LC.
The exhibit is free and open though Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
