Tired of being dressed down

Daniel Craig – the new James Bond – may be Esquire magazine’s new best-dressed man, but he’s not feeling the love from fans.

“If I went onto the Internet and started looking at what some people were saying about me – which, sadly, I have done – it would drive me insane,” Craig says.

“They hate me. They don’t think I’m right for the role. It’s as simple as that. They’re passionate about it, which I understand, but I do wish they’d reserve judgment.”

A group of Bond fans have launched www.craignotbond.com to boycott “Casino Royale,” slated for release Nov. 17.

Craig admits that he’s decided to take Bond in a new direction.

“I watched every single Bond movie three or four times, taking in everything I could about how the character had been portrayed in the past, then threw all that away once I started doing the role,” he says.

“It’d be a waste of time unless we took Bond to a place he’d never been before.”

Rest of the best-dressed

By the way, Craig is followed on Esquire’s third annual list by singer John Legend, actors Terrence Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal and brooding Aussie musician Nick Cave.

Bringing up the rear: Axl Rose, Marc Anthony and Britney Spears‘ 11-month old son, Sean Preston Federline.

A new immunity challenge

Richard Hatch, doing time in a West Virginia prison for failing to pay taxes on his $1 million winnings from the first season of “Survivor,” is trying to get used to life behind bars.

“I don’t think I will adjust to any of this until I can prove I was unethically prosecuted,” he says, adding: “There are 1,300-plus inmates who think they know me, so it’s an interesting experience.”

The ring of truth?

Dustin Diamond, who played geeky Screech Powers on the ‘90s teen comedy “Saved by the Bell,” admits scuffling with a woman at an Omaha hotel earlier this week.

Diamond claims the woman broke into his room and he held her until police arrived, while she accuses him of assaulting her.

Barkers up the wrong tree

Former “Newylweds” Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey aren’t the only MTV reality-show couple to end up in the marriage junkyard.

Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker has filed for divorce from his former Miss USA wife, Shanna Moakler. Their lavish wedding was documented on “Meet the Barkers.”

Stop, go, yield?

Then there’s Carmen Electra, who officially filed for divorce Thursday from Dave Navarro, her former partner-in-bliss in MTV’s ” ‘Til Death Do Us Part.”

Actress Jenae Altschwager has stepped forward to confess that she and Navarro had a fling while he was married, but she was never able to consummate it because the big “CE” tattoo on his chest “was like a blinking light.”
