Has Mel crucified his career?
Hollywood is wondering whether Mel Gibson can recover from the alleged anti-Semitic remarks he made during a drunk driving arrest on Friday.
The “Passion of the Christ” director reportedly said “the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world” and asked the arresting officer if he was Jewish.
The next day, he apologized for his “horrific relapse” into alcoholism and for saying things that were “despicable.”
Some Jewish leaders criticized “Passion” as anti-Semitic, and Gibson’s father was quoted as calling the Holocaust mostly “fiction.”
Gibson’s next film, “Apocalypto,” is scheduled for release Dec. 8.
“It’s a nuclear disaster for him,” says former Michael Jackson publicist Michael Levine. “I don’t see how he can restore himself.”
But Anne Thompson, movie columnist for The Hollywood Reporter, says: “People love Mel Gibson. They care about him and want him to do well and get himself back together.”
Now the heat is really on
Producer James G. Robinson isn’t buying Lindsay Lohan‘s story that she left a movie set last week because of heat exhaustion.
In a letter to Lohan, Robinson said he was “well aware that your ongoing all-night heavy partying is the real reason for your so-called ‘exhaustion,’ ” adding that she’s been frequently late for filming and “discourteous, irresponsible and unprofessional.”
Lohan’s mother, Dina Lohan, in turn called Robinson “way out of line,” saying that her daughter’s asthma contributed to her problems.

It’s official: Pamela Anderson is Mrs. Kid Rock.
The former “Baywatch” babe wed the rock star Saturday in St. Tropez, as planned, her spokeswoman said. They were previously engaged in 2002 but split up the following year.
In her online diary, Anderson wrote: “I’ve raised my kids (with ex-husband Tommy Lee) alone in hope of a miracle. Well my miracle came and went. And came back and back because he knew that I’d wake up one day and realize that I was waiting for nothing.”
All you need is … lawyers
It’s official: Paul McCartney has filed for divorce from Heather Mills McCartney.
The former Beatle blames her for the split, saying her behavior was unreasonable and argumentative, British newspapers reported.
McCartney, who does not have a prenuptial agreement to protect his estimated $1.5 billion fortune, has hired attorney Fiona Shackleton, who represented Prince Charles in his divorce from Princess Diana.
No blues for the Reds
Eric Clapton‘s planned concert on Moscow’s Red Square has been canceled because Russian authorities pulled the plug at the last minute.
Clapton’s Russian promoter had received an official permit for the Thursday concert, but authorities abruptly withdrew that.
Some tickets were priced at more than $370.
