VOA will offer Mother’s Day luncheon

Jenni Mcneish The Spokesman-Review

It’s hard to believe, but Mother’s Day is just around the corner.

This year, honor your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother or a special mother figure in your life by contributing to “I Remember Mama,” a tribute luncheon hosted by Volunteers of America.

The luncheon will be held on Mother’s Day, May 14, for 100 elderly low-income women from our community who otherwise would be alone.

A contribution of $25 will sponsor one elderly woman to join in the celebration at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park, which includes a baseball theme complete with popcorn, peanuts, a visit from Otto, the Spokane Indians baseball team mascot, gifts, and live entertainment provided by Robert Vaughn.

The festivities begin at 1 p.m. KXLY-TV’s Kirk Hawkins will serve as master of ceremonies.

Donations must be received by Friday.

Call 624-2378 for more information.

Contributions may be made in honor of your loved one. In addition, a card will be sent to them to acknowledge your love and appreciation.

The Volunteers of America, a nonprofit organization founded in 1896, provides services to street kids, families in crisis, people with mental illnesses and HIV or AIDS, teen mother and their children, homeless women and young men, and the families of children in the public mental health system.
